Hydrogen Storage Systems
Faurecia supports automakers with complete Hydrogen Storage System integration for different vehicle architectures that match the industry requirements with just-in-time delivery of end-of-Line tested turnkey systems. Optimized in carbon fiber to reduce weight and fuel consumption, our homologated tanks ( 350 and 700 bar) will be produced at Faurecia’s new center of expertise for Hydrogen Storage Systems in Bavans, France. Faurecia has already gained major contracts, for the production of Light Commercial Vehicles and for a large-scale Heavy-Duty commercial vehicle project to promote hydrogen mobility in Switzerland.
Hydrogen Stack systems
Symbio, a joint between Faurecia and Michelin, designs, produces and markets hydrogen systems for light and commercial vehicles, buses and trucks, as well as for other electric vehicles. With its unique expertise and a priority given to the establishment of automotive production standards, the company aims to become a world leader in hydrogen mobility. Symbio has been working for more than ten years on hydrogen technology and its integration into vehicles which have covered more than three million kilometers. It also aims to produce 200,000 StackPacks® - its pre-validated and pre-integrated hydrogen systems - per year in 2030, for manufacturers around the world.
Reducing CO2 emissions with Exhaust Heat Recovery Systems
Today, one third of the energy produced by automotive drivetrains is lost as heat through the exhaust system.
Faurecia has developed a breakthrough innovation particularly well-adapted for use on hybrid vehicles - which will represent 30% on the powertrain mix by 2025 - by allowing them to operate in electric mode more often, improving fuel economy and reducing CO2 emissions.
Faurecia’s compact EHRS weighs less than 3 kilograms and offers best-in-class packaging, allowing installation in a position close to the engine for maximum heat recovery. It is the most competitive solution of its kind on the market and brings a reduction in fuel consumption from 3% to 7% in cold conditions due to faster engine warmup and increased use of the electric mode. Faurecia equips the Hyundai IONIQ Hybrid and plug-in Hybrid as well as the Ford F-150 with this technology.
Improving air quality with Electric Heated Catalysts
In anticipation of stricter emissions regulations and in order to improve air quality, Faurecia has developed the Electrically Heated Catalyst. 80% of pollutants are emitted in the first 20 seconds of an engine’s operation.
The Electric Heated Catalyst activated in low-temperature phases, uses electric energy to heat exhaust gases and the ceramic catalyst cells to reach their full efficiency temperature in the shortest timing. For gasoline applications, at the right level of temperature for the catalyst, the pollutants are converted beyond 95%. For diesel applications, the Electrically Heated Catalyst enables an overall reduction of 75% of NOx emissions.
The Electrically Heated Catalyst is compliant with Euro 7 emissions standards as well as ultra-low emissions standards for urban areas.
Reducing fuel consumption and NOX emissions for commercial vehicles with Heated Doser
Designed for optimal performance even at low exhaust temperatures, the Heated Doser helps reduce both fuel consumption and NOx emissions. It also helps reduce deposits and increase engine lifetime. Through its ability to operate rapidly even at low temperatures, the Heated Doser converts NOx particles, and is in line with upcoming Ultra Low NOx and Euro VII regulations.
Safer, sustainable driving with E-mirrors
Faurecia’s e-mirror range replaces conventional door mirrors with an intelligent sensor designed to provide drivers with a dynamic view and safety alerts as well as improve fuel economy. It brings better visibility of the surrounding environment into the cabin via a small display screen near the driver which builds on Faurecia's expertise in display technology and integration into the vehicle interior. Image processing enhances real-time viewing especially in poor weather or lighting conditions. The e-mirror uses to software that warns drivers about blind spots and lane keeping, monitors nearby vehicles, and detects obstacles.
Automated parking solutions for safety and convenience
Faurecia’s camera and sensors, computer vision and driver assistance systems are the fundamental techno-bricks that enable intelligent systems to make driving maneuvers easier and more convenient, while improving passenger and road safety. Using an app, the driver summons his or her vehicle, which uses a previously created parking map to recalculate its route to avoid obstacles and pick up the driver.
